Why are You Scared of the Kitten?

The big bad cattle boss on the farm is getting taught who’s really in charge of this place tonight! That is how I captioned this video on my personal feed last month.

It was funny, it was cute to watch the little kitten seemingly scare the dog who bosses every animal on the farm around. Willow, works the cattle, pigs and chickens. She has no fear of the 1000+ pound steers and making them go where she wants them to go. She has killed groundhogs and yes cats before. She makes sure our older larger dog Bailey, knows she is in charge and Bailey submits to her regularly. But this little kitten just put Willow in her place.

Then the day after we took this video, I went for a bike ride to the quiet lake 6 miles from my house. When I got there Phil Wickham was worshiping on my ear buds so I walked down to the lake and worshiped with him. Hands lifted high singing loudly (there was no one else around).

When God spoke to my heart, “why are you acting like Willow?”

Me: wait, what?

In my heart once again: “you are acting like Willow. You are very powerful, you have past experiences to remind yourself of the power you possess inside because of Me dwelling inside you. You know what I can do and you can do with Me by your side. And yet you’re scared of the little tiny kittens in life that you could kill with one bite. Why are you acting like Willow?”

Me: hmm…

Today I want to encourage you with my lesson, don’t act like Willow. If you have Jesus in your heart you have more power then you can imagine. Don’t let the little kittens of life smack you around! Put the kittens in their place.

I know some things are bigger than kittens. Some things in your life are the 1000+ pound beast that looks unmanageable. Some things might be lions not kittens. I completely understand this! I have several situations that appear to be lions in my life right now. And most days it feels like they are attacking from all sides. I have recently had a day that by 10 a.m. I found myself sighing heavy and mumbling, is this day done yet? Can I go home and go to bed yet? Some of the things that are attacking you and I are overwhelming and exhaustingly scary in the human perspective.

But whatever you are facing today, no matter how big it is in our earthly view, to the God who created the universe, who dwells inside you they all look like little kittens. It’s time we call for the real help we need, pray as I did standing next to that lake, “Dear God please defeat these silly little kittens who are trying to slap me around.” It’s time to rise up with a roar and say no more! You’re not slapping me around anymore! Don’t let the evil of this world try to teach you who is in charge, as I saw Willow do last night, bowing down to this silly little thing.

You stand up and show the kittens that are determined to slap you around exactly who REALLY is in charge around here, the One who lives inside you. It isn’t the evil of this world that is in charge. We are allowing it to be because we are scared of the kittens. It is the Lion of Judah who is really in charge here! Our power comes from God alone not from man, not from self discipline, or hard work. Our real power to fight off the evil of this world that is pursuing us comes from God alone.

Proverbs 28:1 – “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”

1 Corinthians 2:3-5 - I (Paul) also was with you in weakness and fear, and in great trembling, and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of mankind, but on the power of God.
