As I rode my bike the other day, I prayed about what the next blog post should be about. And it became clear it needs to be about exactly what I was doing at the time, going to the garden for a daily time with God. I need to go back to the beginning.

You see in the beginning God created Adam and Eve. The Bible says Adam and Eve had a unique relationship with God, they walked with God in the garden and talked to Him. On a regular basis, God came down just so He could hear about their day.

In Genesis 3, it is clear hearing God walking in the Garden was not something that surprised them, kinda like dad coming home from work, and you know your mom said earlier in the day “wait til your dad gets home.” You run and hide when you hear his car pull in the driveway right? Adam and Eve heard God pull in and ran to hid. They knew He was coming because it was His routine, to come down and walk through the garden with His children. Why did He do this? He is God! He created everything, why should He come down to walk through the garden with His creation?

Because that was the point of creating them! God created free willed humans in His image so that He had chosen relationships. So He could walk with His children and hear about their day, He wanted to hear all about the good and bad of their day, He desired to hear them tell Him in their own words and personalities about all the animals He had created. Can you imagine that conversation.

God: “did you see that one? What did you call it?”

Adam: “ha! yes! What were you thinking? We called it the platypus.”

God: “I was just having a little fun, it’s pretty cool isn’t it!”

And the conversation would go on and on, God enjoyed the daily walks and talks with His people then and He still does today. It’s really all He desires from us. To chose Him. To chose a daily time to tell Him all about our life, the good the bad and everything in the middle. He wants to hear all about it like your best friend He wants to be there for you in the bad stuff of life. He wants to celebrate with you in the good! He gave us a free will to chose to have this relationship and He will never force it. He will knock on your hearts door but He will never force Himself into your life.

So I encourage you to give it a try today, weather you are going for a bike ride in the beautiful fall colors, a walk around the block, or just sitting quietly watching the live stream of the leaning barn, stop and breath a prayer telling God about whatever is on your heart, good, bad, funny, or scary. That’s all He wants right now, just to be part of your day.

God bless you my friend!
