Don't Let Go of the Rope

I wrote this 5 years ago when I lived this day. I wanted to share it then but I didn't have the confidence to put it out there, This week it came to me that this is what I needed to share with you all. I started on Wednesday reworking it so I made sense today but then again lost confidence and put it off to do tomorrow. Thursday I got busy and forgot all about the blog post. So I am here today on Friday, putting this writing and myself out there as I needed once again to remember "Don't let go of the rope!" I hope it helps you as well and encourages you to hold on to the rope of faith.

As I drove to Grand Rapids on that day in 2018, Ellianna sleeping in the back seat, Alex dozed off in the passenger seat, we were headed to GR for Alex to see a pediatric Orthopedic surgeon for his severely displaced and fractured clavicle, thanks to a stump and a dirt bike collision. The week before this trip I had a biopsy done on a mass in my breast they discovered while doing a cat scan for my lung issues and I was awaiting the call with the results. We were keeping this biopsy and mass a secret from our kids until we knew something more. My aunt died of breast cancer the year before and they had 2 weeks left of school when we found out about it and we didn’t want to mess up final exams from stressing over mom.

I had been dealing with 5 kids, business, household, one really injured kid, I felt the local orthopedic was not doing a good job caring for Alex and had a really bad plan for fixing him. I was fighting to find someone to fix my broken baby quickly, a cancer scare I had to keep secret and many other everyday stresses in life. I was now driving in a quiet car, everyone else sleeping comfortably and I had time to breath and pray. I cried out to God! Please fix my baby today! Please get him out of this pain now! Please let this mass be nothing! And He brought a very vivid picture to my mind. It was a meme I had seen a few times. It was a little boy holding a rope while being drug through a barn yard by a very large steer and it said, “only show mom’s would yell, ‘don’t let go of the rope!’”

Please let me explain this meme for any non cattle show readers: Why on earth would a mama who loves her baby tell them to not let go of the rope you might ask? That doesn’t make sense! Let go! Get away from that crazy massive dangerous animal most would be screaming at their baby! But a show mom, a mom who has seen steers trained to lead, a mom who probably trained a steer or two or twenty herself as a kid, knows something the rest don’t! If you let go of that rope you just trained that steer to run next time. He learned how to shake you off and get away with whatever he wants. All he has to do is run and you let go of the rope and he is free. And now next time you try to train that steer he will he be 10 times worse behaved! He will run instantly because he knows you will let go of the rope. It is basic animal training. You don’t let them know they can win. If that baby drags behind the steer until he stops and stands up with the rope in his hand, the steers will realize he can’t shake this little bugger I guess I better follow along. Now obviously this isn’t an advised method of training a steer!! And every mama is running to the child’s aid as she is yelling this. Obviously, normally an adult or older teenager will halter break the steer first and insure the calf is safe before they will allow a child to hold the rope. Occasionally the adults/older teenagers get pushed and pulled around, but they have the ability to control the animal and be safe with them as they train the steer. But sometimes a steer who has always been perfectly safe for the little guys to lead will take off when no one is ready for it. And that’s when everyone, mamas and all yell, “Don’t let go of the rope!” As they run to their aid!

So I prayed again: That is a funny meme God but let’s get back to the task at hand, my baby, my life, all this stuff going on that needs to be done and why? How? Oh God what am I going to do. His reply, “don’t let go of the rope!” Satan is the massive crazy steer. Satan is trying to see if he runs if you will let go of the rope of faith that is binding you to my heart! Don’t let go of the rope of faith! Hold on no matter what! God added, I am the parent who is running to catch up to you to grab that rope ahead of you and pull the crazy beast to a stop! Just like you would for your boys if their steer was dragging them I am here just don’t let go of the rope of faith! Don’t let Satan know he can win this round because the next round will be worse! He will know how to beat you and he won’t ever stop. Don’t let go of the rope! No matter what!! don’t let go of the rope of faith!

So there it is don’t let go of the rope of faith! Hold on tight no matter what! God is coming to your aid! Hold on!

It is always good to have older wiser Godly Christians in your presence, so if Satan gets away on a run that is dragging you and kicking you in the face while your down, they can help you grab that rope and bring that beast to a stop! Just listen to them and allow them to help you! Older wiser Christians, take ahold of someone's rope and help them train their steer so they are ready when he decides to run.

And by the way, Alex didn’t need surgery, God realigned his broken bones by the time we got to Grand Rapids and my biopsy came back benign. God had it covered the whole time I just had to hold onto the rope I may have been drug through a few cow pies and kicked a few times but God grabbed the rope and we together taught Satan he isn’t going to get me that way!
